BOOKSING - Original songs by Buzz Humke
We are pleased to invite you to a very unique Iola Village Library adult program – “BOOKSING,” a 45 minute to one hour presentation of original songs by Buzz, written in connection with the publication of his novel, The Logging Road Gang, available for $17.95 each at the library and at Sweet Medicine Prescriptions Plus before and after the 24th. For the same price, the author will sign copies after his presentation, when refreshments will be served.
The book tells the story of an eleven—“eleven and a half”—year-old boy who, in 1938, must leave his Milwaukee home for small-town Central Wisconsin, where his father has secured the public school principal-ship and basketball coaching jobs. In tiny Chester, Junior Coffey dreams, he will have to face his two greatest fears: deep, dark forests like those of the Brothers Grimm, and a dominating local woods-boy whom his imaginative mind has conjured. In fact, Eddie LeBlanc is even more skilled and mercurial in person when he takes Junior to the Logging Road woods and “crick” for the first time. Adults who remember those years between World Wars, especially those who lived in small towns while growing up, will thoroughly enjoy this book.
Buzz’s BOOKSING features songs about and songs by characters in the book. The tunes were either borrowed with permission of the copyright holder, are in the public domain, or created by Buzz. He’s accompanied by electronic keyboard music composed and recorded on compact disc by Larry Lloyd, his son-in-law and Senior Pastor at Crossroads Church in Ferney-Voltaire, France.
We hope to see you on the 24th of September; we’ve been promised a fun evening.
